At the Global Change Award ceremony, the Taiwanese actress, model and sustainability influencer Chiling Lin wore a custom-made Orange Fiber gown
Stockholm, 21st of March – On the occasion of the Global Change Award 2018 ceremony – the initiative launched by H&M Foundation to support innovative ideas that can help to close the loop for fashion – which took place yesterday in the famous Stockholm City Hall in the presence of Mister Karl-Johan Persson (CEO H&M) and other distinguished guests, Chiling Lin wore a custom-made Orange Fiber gown.
The Taiwanese actress, model and sustainability influencer – with more than 455,000 Instagram followers – attended the event as a member of the Global Change Award expert panel of 2018. Investing her time and expertise, she contributed to identify the five winners of the Global Change Award 2018, the brilliant minds and game changing innovators that were awarded yesterday night.
Well known for her commitment in sustainable fashion, for her style and elegance, she has been chosen by the H&M Foundation to wear an exclusive dress manufactured with the Orange Fiber silk-like fabric.
A timeless look, a special gown representing the future of fashion with sustainability and textile innovation in focus.
Designed by Chatarina Forseth (Concept Designer at New Development, H&M), the black gown with fluid floral print had a heavy satin quality with a silk feel. The top had a deep v-neck both at the front and back. The skirt covered by two layers of recycled tulle fabric, with delicate gathers at waist. The gown has been created using the exclusive Orange Fiber twill, a sustainable fabric made of 50% cellulose acetylated fiber from oranges and 50% organic silk. Refined and beautiful, this patented material is created extracting the cellulose apt to be spun from the citrus juice by-products, valuing just in Italy more than 1 million tons a year, that otherwise would have to be disposed.
“I love this gown as it’s very glamorous with beautiful details, but what’s even better is that this silk like fabric is made of citrus peel, the result from one of last year’s Global Change Award winners. It really shows that by start thinking in new ways, circularity can take the fashion industry to the next level, without compromising on style”, commented Chiling Lin.
Together with the best look from the H&M Conscious Exclusive Collection 2018, the sustainable gown wore by Chiling Lin will be on display at the famous W Taipei from April 18th until May 18th.
Orange Fiber – awarded in 2016 with the first Global Change Award with a grant of €150,000 and a year of innovation accelerator provided by H&M Foundation in collaboration with Accenture and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm to develop the project – has been chosen for the third consecutive year to participate and share the learnings of the team regarding the panorama of the innovations able to make fashion circular.

2018, for the panel ‘Bringing fashion innovation to the consumer’.
She shared her experience as winner with the new finalists of Global Change Award, witnessing the progress made thanks to the acceleration program offered by H&M Foundation, such as the launch of the first fashion collection created with Orange Fiber fabrics by the Italian luxury brand Salvatore Ferragamo and the creation of an exclusive gown – also by Ferragamo – wore by the top model Karolina Kurkova on the occasion of the first Green Carpet Fashion Awards Italia 2017.
The gown has been shown in an exhibition area specially created within the House of Culture of Stockholm at the occasion of the Global Change Award press meeting, yesterday morning.
Orange Fiber has shown to have caught the opportunities for growth and development offered by the award, effectively using the grant, the specialized support received and the network of intertwined relationships with the players in the fashion industry and manufacturing, thus achieving great progress in the development of its project and laying a solid foundation for the future of the company in the fashion-fabrics market.
