“Ethical sustainability: creating networks for a green future” is the title of the roundtable we took part at on October 14th inside the Archivio Storico of Palermo, a haunting palace of the 17th century. The event was organized by Alberto and Gioia Gange, heads of Albamedia – the publishing house of zoemagazine.net and oplamagazine.it – under the collective Trame Siciliane, a project launched 10 years ago to gather Sicilian producers who positively impact on the environment.
It featured selected Italian stakeholders of the fashion industry along with our CEO Enrica Arena: Sara Sozzani Maino, Creative Director of the Sozzani Foundation, Helen Nonini Founder of Schwa, Vincenzo Troia Managing Director of giglio.com, Pietro Mazzettini CEO of Asciari, Sergio Daricello Professor of fashion design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo and Carlotta Marioni Editor-in-chief of fashion at Grazia magazine. All participants expressed their view on sustainability in the fashion industry and in raising people’s awareness on their possible active role as agent of change. Further, the discussion touched on the uniqueness of the Italian supply chain and on the role of those who produce, distribute and communicate fashion.
The event represented a step forward to connect different experiences and people dealing with sustainability in the fashion industry and to create a platform for common growth and opportunities for Sicilian designers and manufacturers.
“From macro to micro – explained Gioia Gange – with Trame Siciliane we decided to convey this message to an audience geographically afar from the classic debates on sustainability in fashion and nevertheless culturally curious and interested in their personal role in promoting a better future. For doing so, we have decided to award and celebrate the success of ten talented designers who produce their creations in Sicily finding inspiration in their ethical commitment”.
Following the talk, the event continued with an award ceremony. The ten “sustainable” designers selected by Albamedia were awarded with prizes created by the students of the Fashion Design course at the Academy of Fine Arts of Palermo.
The event is part of Trame Siciliane project, a collective established in 2013 by publishing house Albamedia. It aims at supporting and enhancing fashion and design companies that promote the authentic “Made in Sicily” in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.
