During the World Food Forum 2023, Orange Fiber team was invited to take part on October the 18th to Wearable Food Waste in Rome, an event that aims at reconsidering the relationship between food waste and the environment.
The exhibition was organized by FAO’s Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment (OCB) and Bites of Tranfoodmation, a Swiss association that promotes sustainable, resilient and equal food systems. It was a revolutionary convergence of fashion, technology, and sustainability featuring many fashion related innovative materials along with us: Ananas Anam, Bananatex, Barbara della Rovere, Spora Studio e Vegea.
At Wearable Food Waste, Orange Fiber presented to stakeholders and visitors its mission to create circular fabrics from citrus fruit waste and its commitment to an increasingly environmentally friendly future of the textile industry. The event has showcased a storybook of transformational journeys of each brand and has also included interactive touchpoints, displaying informative videos that delve deep into the science and technology powering this transformation.
Exhibitors explained the multidimensional benefits of their approach which embodies a truly circular bioeconomy, from turning food waste into wearable fashion, to reducing carbon footprint and creating more sustainable value chains across different sectors. This approach has the potential to revolutionize the fashion industry and to contribute towards the achievement of the FAO Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set on 2030 Agenda adopted by all United Nations Member States.
“We were thrilled to be part of Wearable Food Waste event – said Enrica Arena, CEO of Orange Fiber – this was a networking event among fashion industry innovators and professionals from all over the world active in the food sector to share best practises for a more sustainable and innovative world. Along with other companies, we are definitely contributing at transforming what we usually discard as waste into wearable materials”.
The World Food Forum (WFF) – launched in 2021 by the FAO Youth Committee – is an independent, youth-led global network that aims to spark a global movement that empowers young people everywhere to actively shape agrifood systems. It acts as a major youth platform in global food governance and features a range of interactive events, networks and content platforms. To drive awareness, foster engagement and advocacy, and mobilize resources, the WFF connects youth groups, influencers, companies, academic institutions, nonprofits, governments, media and the public and serves as a global think tank that fosters youth-led solutions in innovation, science and technology.
